Vietnam welcomed roughly 17.7 million international visitors in the first nine months of 2026, up 14.5% year-on-year and the highest nine-month figure in recent years — already 71% of the way to the government’s full-year target of 25 million.
The numbers
Nine-month arrivals reached about 17.7 million, a 14.5% increase over the same period in 2025. That pace puts Vietnam on track to challenge its annual target, with three months left to add the remaining 29%.
What’s driving the growth
The jump comes on the back of expanding air connectivity (including new long-haul routes like Vietjet’s recent Hanoi-Prague service), continued visa-exemption policies for key markets, and strong rankings on international “best destination” and “safest country” lists this year.
What it means for your trip
Expect busier airports, attractions, and popular hotels than in recent years, especially heading into the final quarter when Vietnam typically sees its highest arrivals. Book accommodation and transport for peak spots (Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Ha Long Bay) further ahead than you might have in previous years, and consider shoulder-season destinations if you want to avoid the busiest crowds.
