I came here mainly for the views, but the location itself is what makes it interesting. Mũi Nghinh Phong is a rocky cape stretching out from the southern side of Vung Tau, with the sea in front and Núi Nhỏ behind it. The famous yellow Sky Gate is the most photographed spot, but there is more to see around the cape.
It is also an easy place to combine with other Vung Tau attractions, especially if you are already exploring the Thùy Vân and Hạ Long Street area.
What Is Mũi Nghinh Phong?
Mũi Nghinh Phong literally means “Cape Welcoming the Wind”, and the name makes sense as soon as you arrive. The cape projects into the sea and is exposed to the wind and open coastal views.
The official Vung Tau tourism portal lists the address as 1 Hạ Long Street and currently lists entrance as free, with parking charged separately. The area is one of the city’s notable coastal viewpoints.
The position is particularly good because you can see the coastline from several angles. The cape sits near Bãi Sau and the southern end of the Vung Tau peninsula, with the sea stretching out directly in front of you.
The Famous Sky Gate
The Sky Gate is the landmark most people associate with Mũi Nghinh Phong. It is a simple yellow gateway facing the sea, but the combination of the gate, blue water and rocky coastline makes it one of the easiest photo spots to recognize in Vung Tau.
When I visited, I found the area much more interesting than simply taking one photo through the gate. Walk around and look at the coastline from different angles. The cape itself is the attraction, and the gate is really just the most recognizable frame.
What Can You See from Mũi Nghinh Phong?
The biggest reason to come here is the scenery. From the cape, you can look back toward Vung Tau’s coastline while also getting a wide-open view of the sea.

How Long Do You Need at Mũi Nghinh Phong?
You do not need a full day just for the cape. The official Vung Tau tourism information gives a possible visit duration ranging from 30 minutes to a full day, depending on how much time you want to spend exploring the area.
For a normal sightseeing stop, I would allow around 1–2 hours. That gives you enough time for the Sky Gate, the coastal viewpoints, photographs and a relaxed walk around the area.
If you are building a full sightseeing route, you can easily combine Mũi Nghinh Phong with other attractions on this side of Vung Tau rather than making a separate trip just for the cape.
Is Mũi Nghinh Phong Free?
Yes. There is currently no entrance fee for Mũi Nghinh Phong. Parking may have a separate charge.
This makes it one of the easiest additions to a Vung Tau itinerary if you want to see a major landmark without paying an attraction entrance fee.

Mũi Nghinh Phong is at 1 Hạ Long Street, close to the Christ the King Statue and the southern end of Vung Tau’s main beachfront area.
If you are staying around Bãi Sau, Thùy Vân or the city centre, a taxi or motorbike is straightforward. If you are already sightseeing along Hạ Long Street, the cape can also be incorporated into a longer coastal route.

What Should You Bring?
- Water: it is useful to have your own drink with you while exploring the area.
