Proven Restoration Reopens Hue’s Tu Duc Tomb Theatre Doors

A historic part of Hue’s Tu Duc Tomb restoration nears completion; doorways at the Minh Khiem Duong theater are restored.

Minh Khiem Duong is one of the oldest surviving theaters in Vietnam and the only ancient theater built inside a royal tomb complex. It was constructed as part of the Tu Duc Tomb restoration and was used for royal performances.

As part of the Tu Duc Tomb restoration, several doorways sealed or reduced in size have been reopened. The restoration of Minh Khiem Duong is now around 98% complete.

The work is intended to restore the historic appearance and architectural features of the theater while preserving the structure for future visitors.

There is one important point for travelers: Minh Khiem Duong is currently still closed while the final restoration work is completed. The reopening date for visitors has not yet been announced.

Once reopened, the restored theater should add another interesting element to a visit to Hue and the city’s famous Nguyen Dynasty royal tombs.

For now, travelers should check the latest visitor information before specifically planning to enter the theater.
