Nha Trang is a city of contrasts, and choosing the right neighborhood directly shapes your vacation. Some seek peace and family comfort, others want to be in the thick of things, and some prefer total resort seclusion. Having explored almost every corner of this city, I will break down where to stay, what to pay, and which area suits you best. This guide is for those looking for a comfortable, budget‑friendly hotel for their first few nights, or for anyone considering a longer‑term rental.
Once you have settled in, check out my 9‑day Nha Trang itinerary — it covers exactly what to do, where to go, and in what order to see the city without missing a thing.
🌊 The North: Russian Quarter and Calm Seas
The northern part of the city, around Pham Van Dong and Nguyen Tat Thanh streets, has become a second home to a large Russian‑speaking community. If you want to be surrounded by familiar faces, hear your native language in every café, and not worry about English — head north.
Oceanus Residential Complex is a true «Russian stronghold.» This massive complex is home to a huge portion of Nha Trang’s Russian community. You will always find playmates for kids or get advice in your own language at a nearby shop. The area is very green and peaceful.
For budget stays in this part of the city, you can find inexpensive apartments or small hotels. Prices here are noticeably lower than in the center, and the sea is the same — literally across the road.
Pros: Very calm, many families with children, gentle beach entry, all necessary infrastructure (cafés, shops) without the center’s hustle.
Cons: You need a taxi or motorbike to reach the city center and main attractions.

🏙️ Center and «Near‑Center»: My Sweet Spot
Living right in the epicenter, on Tran Phu or Hung Vuong streets, means constant noise, tourist crowds, and above‑average prices. I prefer areas within walking distance of all the action but where you can actually sleep. Here are my personal finds. They are all located in the so‑called «European Quarter» — the area around Nguyen Thien Thuat and Hung Vuong streets, about a kilometer north of the central square.
❤️ Crown Hotel Nha Trang – My Personal Favorite
I have stayed in this hotel myself and can confidently recommend it. It is located right across the road from the beach. For the price of renting an apartment 20 minutes from the shore, you get full hotel service: no need to pay for utilities, internet, or cleaning — it is all included. There is a rooftop swimming pool, a gym, and a restaurant. Every room has a private balcony with a sea or city view. It is the ideal price‑quality ratio for those who want to relax, not solve household issues.
Other tried‑and‑tested options in the same location:
- Ruby Hotel Nha Trang: A real chance to stay by the sea for pocket change — prices start around $13 (320,000 VND) per night with breakfast for two. In other tourist cities, that money might get you a hostel bed; here it gets you a full private room. It is located right next to Crown and La Vague.
- Balcony Nha Trang Hotel: Another hotel on my personal list. Its main feature is a rooftop pool and a balcony in every room. The grounds are very green.
- La Vague Hotel: A slightly newer, more stylish four‑star option, also on the beachfront. If Crown is about coziness and practicality, La Vague is about modern design and a trendier vibe.
What about infrastructure? This area has absolutely everything: shops, hairdressers, laundries, a market within walking distance, and countless cafés for every taste — from Russian cuisine to local street food. And you can reach the very city center with a leisurely 10‑minute stroll along the beautiful promenade. Zero location issues.

⚠️ Important Note About the «Panorama» Hotel
Many have heard of the famous Panorama Hotel with its postcard city views and rooftop pool. But there is a catch: «Panorama» is not a single hotel but an entire building run by many different management companies. They sell rooms under various names, often including the word «Panorama.» In reality, you are booking a room in the exact same building, but the service, room condition, and even floor can vary greatly depending on who manages it. Therefore, if you have your heart set on this skyscraper, read reviews carefully before booking. That said, neighboring hotels near Panorama are often just as good and cost less.
By the way, getting to Vinpearl from this area is very convenient: a city bus runs along the promenade, and its final stop is right at the cable car.
Need a break from the city buzz? From this area, you can easily escape to peace and quiet for a couple of days. The port where boats depart for Hon Tam Island is very close. Book a room at Hon Tam Resort and 15 minutes later you are on a white‑sand beach in total relaxation.
🏖️ The South (An Vien): For Absolute Relaxation
If your goal is to completely disconnect from the city, head to the far south, to the An Vien area. Life flows differently here.
The beach in this area is protected by breakwaters, so there are almost no waves, and the water warms up better and faster than in the open sea. It is an ideal spot for families with small children. The downside: minimal infrastructure. Literally a couple of shops and cafés for the whole area. This is a place for very slow, meditative living.
Insider Tip: An Vien is the closest area to the port for boats to Hon Tam. So if you choose this neighborhood, paradise island is just a stone’s throw away.
For budget accommodation here, consider Crown Nguyen Hoang Hotel — a simple but tidy hotel where you can stay cheaply by the sea. Another option is Orbit Hotel Nha Trang, which offers good value for money.
📝 Planning to Stay Longer? Where to Find an Apartment
Hotels are a great starting option. I recommend booking a room for 3‑5 days, settling in, resting after the journey, and then leisurely searching for a long‑term rental apartment on the spot.
Why search locally? Vietnamese prefer to negotiate in person rather than through online services. The best way to find an apartment is to walk around your chosen neighborhood and ask at the reception of every building you like. There are millions of options, and the price in person is often lower than online.
Of course, online search is still an option. Here are the main resources:
- Facebook groups: The primary tool for finding housing among expats. A huge number of listings from agents and owners.
- Telegram chats: There are also many rental chats in Nha Trang where you can find verified options.
🗺️ Other Nha Trang Areas: A Quick Overview
- Big C Area: The GO! shopping center (formerly Big C) is a landmark for another calm, family‑friendly neighborhood. It is quiet, green, and everything you need is within walking distance.
- KVG The Capella: An upscale gated townhouse community with its own infrastructure. Many expats rent houses there. The downside: it is far from the sea, and you absolutely need a motorbike or taxi.
- Do Theater Area (Bai Tien): A new, rapidly developing area in the north of the city. Its centerpiece is the futuristic Do Theater, built in 2023. Infrastructure (shops, cafés) is already appearing, and the biggest plus is that it is the final stop for the bus that goes straight to Vinpearl along the promenade. A very promising location.
- Cam Ranh: A completely different story. Many confuse it with a Nha Trang district, but it is a separate city. It only has large, expensive resorts. You will not find long‑term or cheap rentals there, and there are practically no shops. It is exclusively for all‑inclusive beach resort stays.
🍜 What’s Next? Where to Eat and What to Do
Now that you have chosen your hotel, it is time to think about where to eat well and affordably. A detailed guide to the best cafés and restaurants in Nha Trang — from street stalls with pho bo to places serving any cuisine — is coming soon.
And if you are not sure where to start exploring the city, take a look at my 9‑day Nha Trang itinerary. There I laid out the perfect route: waterfalls, islands, viewpoints, temples, and everything worth coming here for.
I hope this guide helps you get your bearings. Whatever your budget, Nha Trang definitely has your ideal spot. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments!
