A new link between Vietnam and Sydney is coming.
Ho Chi Minh City to Western Sydney flights are under discussion, not Sydney Airport.
Vietjet announces Ho Chi Minh City to Western Sydney flights on a direct service to Western Sydney International Airport.
The service will begin in January 2027, giving travelers from Vietnam another direct option for reaching Sydney and giving Western Sydney a new connection with Vietnam.
When will the new flights start?
Vietjet says the new service will launch from January 9, 2027. The first Ho Chi Minh City to Western Sydney flights will depart on January 9 and arrive at Western Sydney the following morning.
The route will initially operate twice a week.
- Ho Chi Minh City → Western Sydney: Tuesday and Saturday at 9:20 PM
- Western Sydney → Ho Chi Minh City: Wednesday and Sunday at 12:05 PM
- Aircraft: Airbus A330
- Initial frequency: 2 round trips per week
Vietjet plans to increase the service to three weekly flights from March 2027.
Why is Western Sydney Airport important?
Western Sydney International Airport is not simply another airport for Sydney. It is a completely new international gateway being developed for one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions.
One of its biggest differences is that WSI is designed to operate 24 hours a day, giving airlines much more flexibility with international flights.
The airport is also particularly relevant to the Vietnamese community in Western Sydney. According to the airport’s CEO, more than 70,000 Vietnamese people live in Western Sydney, representing more than half of Greater Sydney’s Vietnamese population.
For travelers visiting family and friends, as well as tourists traveling between Vietnam and Australia, having a direct route into Western Sydney creates another option when planning a trip.
What does this mean for Vietnam travelers?
If you are flying from Vietnam to Sydney, you will soon have another airport to compare with Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport.
That could be particularly useful if your destination is already in Western Sydney. Instead of traveling across the metropolitan area after landing, you can arrive directly on the western side of the city.
