I was impressed by the quality and size of some collections here. Vung Tau is not a city I would normally associate with museums, but there are places where you can easily spend an hour or two looking through local history, military collections, antiques, and historic buildings.
Here are the museums and historic sites I would put on your list, depending on what you are interested in.
1. Worldwide Arms Museum
If you only have time for one museum in Vung Tau, I would start with the Worldwide Arms Museum, also known as the Robert Taylor Museum of Worldwide Arms.
The private collection at 98 Trần Hưng Đạo Street contains almost 4,000 historical artifacts from different countries and periods, including weapons, armor and military uniforms.
The collection is particularly interesting because it is international. You can move from ancient and medieval weapons to European military uniforms and firearms from more recent periods.
The museum is arranged across different historical periods, and many of the uniforms are displayed on mannequins, making the collection much more visual than a simple row of objects behind glass.
I would allow around 60–90 minutes here, although anyone seriously interested in military history could easily spend longer.

2. Ba Ria–Vung Tau Museum
The Ba Ria–Vung Tau Museum is a completely different experience. Instead of focusing on weapons from around the world, this museum tells the story of the province and the people who lived here.
The museum is at 4 Trần Phú Street, near the Front Beach area and the White Palace.
The exhibition covers the region’s history from prehistoric and early periods through the development of Vung Tau, the French colonial period, the wars for independence and the province’s economic development after 1975.
One of the interesting parts is the collection of ceramics and other artifacts recovered from the sea. There are also displays about the local population, traditional life, industry and the development of the province.
The museum is spread across several floors, so don’t expect a quick 15-minute stop. Recent visitors have reported spending around 1.5–2 hours here.

3. White Palace (Bạch Dinh)
Bạch Dinh, or White Palace, is technically a historic cultural site rather than a conventional museum, but I would still include it when planning a museum and history day in Vung Tau.
The white French-style villa stands at 6 Trần Phú Street on the slopes of Núi Lớn. It was built between 1898 and 1916 and has played an important role in Vung Tau’s history.
The building was used as a residence and retreat by French colonial officials and later became associated with several important figures in Vietnamese history. Former Emperor Thành Thái and Emperor Duy Tân were also held here under house arrest during the colonial period.
Inside, you can see historic rooms, architectural details and artifacts connected with the building’s past. The surrounding grounds also provide views toward the sea and the city.
Current entrance fee: 15,000 VND per person. Children under 14 are currently listed as free.
Because Bạch Dinh is right next to the Ba Ria–Vung Tau Museum, the two can easily be visited together.
Which Vung Tau Museum Should You Visit?
It really depends on what you want to see.
- For military history: Worldwide Arms Museum
- For the history of Vung Tau and the province: Ba Ria–Vung Tau Museum
- For architecture and colonial history: White Palace
If you have only an hour, I would choose the Worldwide Arms Museum.
If you have half a day, I would combine the Ba Ria–Vung Tau Museum with Bạch Dinh, because they are close to each other.
And if you have more time, you can add the Worldwide Arms Museum as a completely different experience.
Can You Visit All Three in One Day?
Yes, and you don’t need to spend the entire day inside museums.
A practical route would be to start at the Worldwide Arms Museum in the morning, continue toward the Front Beach area, and then visit the Ba Ria–Vung Tau Museum and Bạch Dinh.
You can then finish with a walk along the waterfront or lunch at one of the restaurants and cafes around central Vung Tau.

What About Other Museums in Vung Tau?
There are other smaller historical and cultural collections around the city, but I would not automatically put every small exhibition into a separate itinerary.
Some places have limited information available online, while others are more interesting for local visitors than for a first-time tourist.
For a traveler visiting Vung Tau for the first time, I would prioritize the three places above because they offer three genuinely different experiences: international military history, local provincial history and French colonial architecture.
There is also a smaller revolutionary history site in the city, but I would check its current visitor arrangements before making a special trip there. If you happen to be nearby, it can be added as an extra stop rather than being the reason for a separate journey.
How Much Time Do You Need for Vung Tau Museums?
If you visit only the Worldwide Arms Museum, allow around 1–1.5 hours.
For the Ba Ria–Vung Tau Museum, I would allow around 1.5–2 hours if you want to read the displays and follow the history properly.
Bạch Dinh can be much quicker, especially if you are mainly interested in the architecture and views.
For all three together, half a day is a comfortable amount of time.
Are Vung Tau Museums Worth Visiting?
Yes, especially if you have already seen the beaches and main viewpoints.
What surprised me about Vung Tau is how much history is packed into such a relatively small city. You can go from a huge international collection of weapons to a museum dedicated to the history of the province and then walk into a French colonial villa — all without traveling far.
That makes museums a good option for a different kind of Vung Tau day, particularly when you want to escape the heat for a while or simply see something beyond the beach.
